Use the Printer
Information page to determine the proper Queue Name for use below.
You must have "Client for Microsoft Networks" installed before
you can configure Net-Print printers using Microsoft Windows printer
and file sharing.
Use Notepad to create (or append to) the file C:\Windows\lmhosts
(must have no file extension) with the following contents:
132.236.47.13 net-print #PRE #DOM:net-print Note: The lmhosts file must end with a
<carriage return><line feed> (line terminator). That
is, you must
have hit the Enter key at the end of the line. Note:Notepad will call the file lmhosts.txt.
You must rename the file to remove the .txt.
Make Windows read the lmhosts file by either restarting
Windows, or by typing nbtstat -R (yes, that's an uppercase "R")
at
a DOS command prompt.
If asked, select Install a new PostScript printer.
Click Next.
Select It is connected to your network (Network Printer).
Click Next.
Enter \\net-print\<queue name> (eg. \\net-print\upson1)
as the network path. Click Next.
In the Select Printer Model window, click Browse....
In the Browse for Printer window, click Network....
In the Map Network Drive window, enter \\net-print\ppd
as the Path. Click OK.
You may have to click twice on the entry in the Drives
list to get the list of printers to appear.
Select the proper name for this queue (eg. upson1).
Click OK.
Click Next.
Set the Printer Name to the name of the queue (eg. upson1).
Make appropriate choices for making this printer your default
printer, and for printing a test page. Click Next.
Click Install.
Select Yes in the Printer Configuration
window. Click Next.
Select the PostScript tab.
Click Advanced....
If Tagged binary Communications Protocol (TBCP) is
offered, select it. Otherwise, select ASCII. Make
any other
selections relevant to your printer's configuration (eg. additional
paper
trays and sizes). Click OK.
Click OK.
If you do not want to read details about the Adobe Systems
driver, uncheck I want to view the Readme file. Click Finish.
Delete winsteng.exe from your desktop if you want.
It is always prudent to restart Windows after installing
software.
