Installing Printers Under MacOS 9
- Use the Printer
Information page to determine the proper Queue Name for use below.
- Connect your computer to the campus network if it is not already connected.
You can use ResNet, campus Ethernet, Express Lane, or EZ-Remote.
- Download Net-Print's
PPD files (requires about 1.2MB). A folder called Net-Print PPD Files
will be created on your desktop. Open this folder. (If you instead see an
icon labeled Net-Print PPD Files.sea, double-click that icon to get
the folder.)
- Select all of the PPD files and move them to the Printer Descriptions
folder, which is in the Extensions folder of your System Folder.
- Locate and open the Apple Extras folder, then open the Apple
LaserWriter Software folder. Double-click Desktop Printer Utility.
- A dialog box labeled New should open. In With, select
LaserWriter 8. In Create Desktop..., select Printer (LPR).
Click the OK button.
- A dialog box labeled Untitled should open. Click the first
Change... button. From the list of Printer Descriptions,
select the PPD file that matches the printer you want to use (see the Printer
Feature Information table). Click the Select button.
- Click the second Change... button. In the first box, type net-print.cit.cornell.edu.
In the second box, type the Queue Name (for example, mvr1;
see the Printer
Feature Information table) of the Net-Print printer you want to use.
Click the OK button.
- Choose Save As... from the File menu. For the name of
the file, use the Printer Name (for example, MVR Net-Print 1;
see the Printer
Feature Information table) that matches the Queue Name you chose above.
- A new printer icon will appear on your desktop. To print using this
Net-Print printer, either select the printer in the Print dialog box,
or drop the document that you want to print onto the icon.
